Uterine retroflexion or often also called an inverted uterus. Uterine retroflection is the condition of the uterus in a straight back position, facing the anus or spine. Most women have the uterus facing forward (anteflection) or toward the stomach and it is located above the bladder.
Many women do not realize that they experience uterine retroflection because this condition generally does not cause symptoms. However, uterine retroflection is known to be associated with several other conditions that can cause complaints or disturbing symptoms.
Then you should immediately consult a doctor if you feel some symptoms such as:
- The spine and vagina are painful when having sex.
- Frequent urination and bladder feels depressed.
- Pelvic pain during menstruation.
- Having a urinary tract infection.
- Difficult to use tampons.
Causes of Uterine Retroflection
Uterine retroflection can occur naturally with age. In addition, there are several factors that can cause uterine retroflection, including:Labor
The position of the uterus can change due to the influence of labor. This condition can occur if the ligaments or uterine supporting tissue stretches. Under normal conditions, the uterus should return to its original position after delivery. But in some labor, it causes a change in the position of the uterus into retroflexion.
Endometriosis
The growth of scar tissue in the uterine wall that occurs in cases of endometriosis, can cause the uterus to be trapped in an upside down position and difficulty returning to its proper position.
Pelvic inflammatory disease
Pelvic inflammatory disease that is not handled properly can trigger the appearance of scar tissue in the lining of the uterine wall and cause effects such as in cases of endometriosis.
Fibroids or myoma
The appearance of myoma around the uterus can make the uterus upside down, imperfect shape, and problematic. In certain cases, the appearance of myoma can also interfere with the process of fertilization or pregnancy.
Pelvic surgery
A history of pelvic surgery can also cause scarring, causing the uterine position to be disturbed.
